MOBILE PHONE RADIATION AND HEALTH
The effect of phone radiation on health is the subject of recent interest and study , as a result of enormous increase in mobile phone usage throughout the world more than
4.3 billion worldwide users were recorded as at June 2009.
Mobile phone use electromagnetic radiation in the micro-wave rang, which some believe to be harmful to human health. A large body of research exists, both epidemiological and experimental in no human, animals and in humans which show overall evidence for all wireless systems, such as data communication networks produce similar radiation.
In earlier days, cellular phones were of big size and were usually attached to immobile surfaces such as cars etc. However, developments in technology have lead to introduction of many pocket sized mobile phones that also depend upon the use of radiations for their functions. Since the whole world is lured by this necessity, there is always a concern about the harmful effects of their radiations.
The harmful effects of mobile phone radiations were exposed in the year 1995. A case reported to Florida where in a lawsuit was filed by a man, who claimed that his wife has been effected by brain tumor because the use of cell phones. It was only after such a case that is numerous researchers where conducted to find out if cell phone really emit radiations that are harmful.
Are Cell Phone Radiations Harmful?
It still remains a controversy and it is not proved if the radiations are harmful or not. The cell phone have been supposed to give out as what is known as electromagnetic radiation. As the cell phones are powered by electricity, they are believed to give out thermal electricity and magnetic fields. These radiations are emitted by other electronics goods such as micro-wave oven, electric clocks, computers and other such appliances. These radiations come under the category of Non-ionizing radiation.
Non-ionizing radiation do not have the energy to cause ionization- they do not have sufficient energy to break apart molecules and atoms and turn them into ions. Ionizing radiations include gamma radiations and x-rays. When human cells are expose to such harmful (Ionizing) radiations, The DNA within the cells is damaged or their sequence is damaged resulting in mutations or other defects.
The World Health Organization (WHO), based upon the consensus view of the scientific and medical communities, has stated that cancers is likely to be caused by cellular phones or their base stations and that previews have found no convincing effect for other health effect.
Conclusively, the relation between the radiations and the effect of them on the users can be summarized as follows:
A-The users of cell phones do not run a high risk of getting cancers than non users.
B- Frequent users of cell phones do not have the risk of getting cancer on no malignant tumors than those who use the cell phones rarely.
